Targus 17-Inch Dual Fan Lap Alternatives: 3 Similar Picks Compared

How these alternatives differ

ChillCore 15.6–19.3-Inch 9-Fan Cooling Pad

The ChillCore 9-Fan Cooling Pad replaces the Targus’s soft neoprene lap surface with a rigid base designed for desks. It supports laptops up to 19.3 inches, covering a wider range than the Targus’s 17-inch limit. Instead of two fans, this model uses nine fans for higher airflow, targeting gaming performance. It includes RGB lighting and two extra USB ports, features the Targus lacks. However, it omits the ergonomic tilt and cushioned bottom that make the Targus suitable for lap use. You should choose this if you need maximum cooling speed and desk stability rather than portable comfort. The fixed height levels offer adjustability, but you lose the soft, lap-friendly design of the original.

KLIM Wind 4-Fan Laptop Cooling Pad

The KLIM Wind 4-Fan pad offers a different approach by focusing on stable support for large laptops. It uses four fans, providing more airflow than the Targus’s dual fans, but lacks the neoprene comfort layer. This model includes a kickstand for ergonomic positioning, similar to the Targus’s tilt, but it is designed for desk use. The weight is lighter at 1.61 pounds compared to the Targus’s 1.99 pounds. It does not mention lap-specific features like rubber stops or soft bottoms. You should pick this if you need extra connectivity and sturdy support for general computing. It gives up the lap comfort of the Targus in favor of a more rigid, desk-oriented structure with enhanced fan coverage.

SHUWEI 15" Aluminum Laptop Cooling Stand

The SHUWEI Aluminum Stand shifts from a flexible lap mat to a solid metal structure. It is built for 15-inch laptops, which is smaller than the Targus’s 17-inch capacity. The aluminum body provides robust cooling through material conductivity rather than just fan airflow. It features 360-degree rotation, a flexibility the Targus does not offer. The stand has a fixed ergonomic angle, differing from the Targus’s tilted neoprene surface. It weighs 2.07 pounds, slightly heavier than the Targus. You should choose this if you prioritize a premium metal build and rotational adjustability. It sacrifices the soft lap comfort and larger laptop support of the Targus for a more rigid, desk-based ergonomic solution.
