Who it fits
Good fit for
This monitor suits users who need a large, portable second screen for work or media. The 100% sRGB coverage makes it suitable for photo editing or video viewing. The single USB-C connection simplifies setup with modern laptops and Thunderbolt devices. Travelers will appreciate the light 1.97-pound weight and included smart case. It also works well with gaming consoles like PS4 or Xbox via the mini HDMI port for a bigger gaming experience on the go.
Who should skip it
Skip this model if you require a high refresh rate for competitive gaming, as the 60Hz panel limits motion smoothness. Users needing multiple video inputs may find the single USB-C and mini HDMI ports restrictive. If you prefer a larger screen than 17.3 inches, this unit will feel cramped. Those who need built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for wireless connectivity will not find these features here. The micro USB port is only for power, so ensure your device supports DP Alt Mode over USB-C.
Verdict: The Cocopar 17.3-inch portable monitor delivers a sharp, color-accurate display in a lightweight package. It is a practical choice for travelers and professionals needing a reliable secondary screen.
Key specs explained
Resolution: 1920 x 1080
This Full HD resolution provides clear text and sharp images on the 17.3-inch panel. You get enough pixel density for productivity tasks like spreadsheets or coding without the strain of lower resolutions. It matches the standard output of most laptops and gaming consoles, ensuring content scales correctly without blurring or pixelation during daily use.
Panel Type: IPS
IPS technology offers wide viewing angles and consistent color reproduction from almost any position. You can share your screen with colleagues or enjoy media while sitting to the side without the image washing out. This makes it a reliable choice for collaborative workspaces or casual entertainment where the viewing position changes frequently throughout the day.
Color Gamut: 100% sRGB
This coverage ensures colors appear accurate and vibrant for standard web content, photos, and videos. You will see images as they were intended by creators, without oversaturation or dullness. It is sufficient for general media consumption and casual photo editing, providing a natural visual experience that matches most modern digital content standards on the web.
Refresh Rate: 60Hz
A 60Hz rate provides smooth motion for everyday tasks, video playback, and casual gaming. You will notice less stuttering when scrolling through documents or watching movies compared to lower rates. While not designed for high-end competitive esports, it delivers a fluid visual experience that meets the needs of most productivity and entertainment workflows effectively.
Weight: 1.97 lbs
This lightweight design makes the monitor easy to carry in a backpack or briefcase. You can set it up quickly in different locations without adding significant bulk to your gear. It is ideal for frequent travelers, digital nomads, or anyone who needs a secondary screen for meetings in cafes, hotels, or co-working spaces.
Design and Build Quality
The Cocopar 17.3-inch portable monitor features an aluminum alloy frame constructed via CNC process. According to the listing, this method ensures an ultra-durable structure that resists wear during travel. The device measures 15.5 inches in width, 9.6 inches in height, and 0.39 inches in length. It weighs 1.97 pounds, making it a manageable companion for mobile workspaces. The black finish blends easily with most laptop setups without drawing unnecessary attention.
You connect to the display using a USB-C port, a mini HDMI port, and a micro USB port. The listing notes that the middle USB-C port handles both power and signal transmission if your device supports DP ALT-MODE. The top USB-C port provides power only. This layout allows you to connect to laptops, PCs, or gaming consoles like PS4 and Xbox with minimal cable clutter. The single-cable setup simplifies your desk or travel bag organization significantly.
The monitor includes a smart case that folds into different angles for viewing. This built-in kickstand removes the need for a separate stand in many scenarios. VESA-compatible screws on the back allow you to mount the unit on compatible arms or stands if you prefer a fixed position. Dual speakers are integrated into the frame, reducing the need for external audio devices. The design prioritizes portability and flexible mounting options for users who move between locations.
Setup and everyday use
Setting up this portable monitor is straightforward if you have the right cable. You need a device with a Thunderbolt 3.0 or USB 3.1 Type-C port that supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode. A single USB-C cable handles both power and video signal transmission. Note that the middle USB-C port provides both functions, while the top port is for power only. If your device lacks a compatible Type-C port, you can use the mini HDMI connection for video and the micro USB port for power. This dual-cable approach ensures compatibility with older laptops, gaming consoles like the PS4 or Xbox, and Raspberry Pi setups. For everyday use, the 17.3-inch IPS panel offers a 16.7 million color range and 100% sRGB gamut, making it suitable for photo editing or media consumption. The 60Hz refresh rate is adequate for general productivity and casual gaming, especially with FreeSync support to reduce screen tearing. You can adjust the viewing experience using the six display modes, including Game, Movie, and Photo presets. The built-in dual speakers allow for audio playback without external headphones, though quality may vary. The smart case doubles as a stand, allowing you to fold it into different angles for comfortable viewing. The aluminum alloy frame adds durability, and VESA-compatible screws let you mount the monitor on a compatible arm or stand for a more permanent desk setup. This flexibility makes it a practical choice for travelers and remote workers who need a reliable secondary screen.
Before You Buy This Monitor
Owning this 17.3-inch portable monitor requires checking your laptop’s output ports carefully. You must have a USB-C port supporting DisplayPort Alternate Mode for single-cable connection. If your device lacks this, you will need a separate power source and a mini HDMI cable. The unit weighs 1.97 pounds, making it light for travel, but you should still use the included smart case to prevent scratches. The aluminum frame is durable, yet the screen surface needs gentle cleaning with a microfiber cloth. Built-in speakers provide basic audio, but you may prefer headphones for better immersion during gaming or movies. This model fits well if you need a large secondary display for coding or spreadsheets. However, if you prioritize ultra-portability, the 15.6-inch variations might suit your bag better. Always verify your device’s USB-C capabilities before purchasing to ensure seamless setup without extra adapters.
Check before you buy
- Check if your laptop has USB-C with DisplayPort Alternate Mode.
- Verify you have a mini HDMI cable for non-USB-C devices.
- Ensure your power bank supports enough wattage for dual ports.
- Confirm the 17.3-inch size fits your travel bag comfortably.
